Wish of a Lifetime from AARP and the Vital Life Foundation have teamed up to create the Journey of Heroes, a program which honors senior veterans with a visit to Washington, D.C. to see the national memorials that were created in honor of their service and sacrifices.
This journey includes a 4-day all-inclusive experience for veterans and a companion to visit the war memorials in Washington, D.C. All travel, walking and bus tours, meals, and accommodations for veterans and their companions are paid for in partnership of Wish of a Lifetime from AARP and the Vital Life Foundation. This trip is prioritized for WWII veterans, followed by Korean and Vietnam War veterans. (Veteran applicants must be of 65+years of age.)

Since 2012, more than 121 veterans have taken this all-expense paid trip to Washington D.C.According to the US Department of Veterans Affairs statistics, 66,146 of the 16.4 million Americans who served in World War II are alive as of 2024.
