Journey of Heroes: Commemorating Ten Years of Honoring Veterans

Vital Life Foundation and Wish of a Lifetime from AARP have teamed up to create Journey of Heroes—an initiative that uplifts and honors senior U.S. military veterans by offering a meaningful, community-centered experience rooted in connection, healing, and purpose.
Journey of Heroes culminates in a shared 4-day experience in Washington, DC, that brings veterans, companions, volunteers, and staff together for intentional moments of camaraderie, storytelling, and shared remembrance. The national landmarks of our nation’s capital serve as powerful spaces to honor service, acknowledge sacrifice, and create moments for reflection and healing.
Since 2013, more than 114 veterans have participated in this impactful experience. Each year, the program continues to grow as we uplift the voices, stories, and lived experiences of those who have served.

Journey of Heroes is a living tribute to the strength of the human spirit and the enduring power of community to restore, uplift, and transform.
U.S. military veterans ages 65 and older are welcome to apply. All travel, tours, meals, and accommodations are provided through the partnership between Wish of a Lifetime from AARP and the Vital Life Foundation.
