Elevated Wishes

Bringing Elevated Wishes to Life

Bringing a senior’s most deeply cherished dream to life is the goal of the Elevated Wish program, in partnership between Vital Life and Wish of a Lifetime from AARP.

An Elevated Wish reconnects loved ones, fulfills lifelong dreams, commemorates service or renews and celebrates passions. Every Elevated Wish starts with a senior’s rich life and compelling story. For all who participate in making that dream come true, it’s a miracle.

Sandy’s Wish at Universal Studios Hollywood (2025)

“She’s always been the person who gives and takes care of everyone.”

Sandy's Elevated Wish - Universal Studios 2025

“She’s always been the person who gives and takes care of everyone.” – That’s how Lorena, an Activity Director at Marquis Companies, describes resident, Sandy. At 74, Sandy looks out for others the way she always has. If someone needs help in the dining room, she speaks up. If residents hesitate to join an activity, she encourages them. She sees it as her responsibility to make sure people are cared for. She’s known for her selfless nature and dedication to helping others, especially after caring for her mother until her passing.

Sandy was chosen for this Elevated Wish to celebrate her kindness and provide some much-needed joy after recent life challenges, and honor her lifelong love of movies. Sandy traveled with her son, and her Activity Director at her facility, who nominated her for the wish. It was Sandy’s first vacation ever! The trip was a transformative celebration of movies, her passion, and a chance to embrace joy after losses, including her mother’s death and the transition to senior living.

During the four-day adventure in Universal Studios Hollywood, Sandy experienced themed attractions like the Wizarding World of Harry Potter (including sipping butterbeer and holding a wand), toured Warner Bros. Studio sets and props, visited other movie-themed zones in the park, and took commemorative photos with photographer Shane Karns.

She keeps mementos from her trip and also tells everyone about her “thrilling weekend” to spread the joy. Sandy expressed gratitude, calling it a “really wonderful experience” and emphasizing its special bond with her son and Activity Director who accompanied her. She also shared that it wouldn’t have meant as much without their companionship.

The experience was coordinated by the Wish of a Lifetime program from AARP and the Vital Life Foundation, with support from Universal Studios Hollywood and local partners like Marquis Companies.

Beth’s Wish to Scuba Dive in Honduras (2024)

“I just want to show people that anyone can do everything they want to in life.”

One unforgettable highlight from 2024 was the remarkable journey of one resident Beth. After a devastating car accident in her twenties resulted in a traumatic brain injury and ongoing physical challenges, Beth committed herself to rebuilding strength and independence over many years. A former athlete and passionate water lover, Beth aspired to return to the ocean.

Through determination, long-term rehabilitation, and the steadfast support of those around her, she prepared for a scuba diving experience in Honduras that would change her life. Preparing to scuba dive was not a vacation; it was hard work that led Beth to reclaim her physical freedom.

Immersed in the weightlessness of the ocean, Beth experienced liberation she hadn’t felt in years. “It felt like flying,” she shared. We are honored to celebrate Beth’s courage and life-changing Elevated Wish.  Beth reflects on her Elevated Wish experience, “I just want to show people that anyone can do everything they want to in life.” We were honored to support Beth’s Wish with support from her Physical Assistant and Scuba Access for Everyone (S.A.F.E.), a nonprofit that helps people scuba dive.
